UNION CARPENTERS REBUILD 7 FIREHOUSES IN HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF EFFORT

New York City Union Carpenters and Contractors
, in partnership with the Leary Firefighters Foundation (link), lead the way in a massive rebuilding effort aimed at restoring the city’s firehouses destroyed in Hurricane Katrina.  Over the course of five months, Union Carpenters volunteered their time, skill and expertise to construct seven new firehouses.  Despite the unique challenges each firehouse presented, the Carpenters built quality buildings in record time.  Within the first week of assistance, three firehouses were completely rebuilt.  Work on the firehouses included sheet rocking, beam work, painting, plastering, framing and ceiling installation.

Gerry Crimmins and Sean Keogan, instructors at the Labor Technical College, spearheaded the rebuilding efforts.  Together, they reached out to materials suppliers who donated building materials used to construct the new firehouses.  Angela Coyle, Program Services Manager for the Leary Firefighters Foundation, noted that the Union Carpenters and Contractors “worked together to create history,” leaving a positive impact on the City of New Orleans.  The newly built firehouses stand as a reminder of the difference that quality union labor and management can make in building better communities.  Union Carpenters and Contractors are Building Lives

UNION CARPENTRY CONTRACTOR, RONSCO, INC. LEADS THE WAY IN AUTISM FUNDRAISING

Ronsco, Inc., a New York-based union carpentry contractor, and a member of the Association of Wall-Ceiling and Carpentry Industries, recently raised over $60,000 for Autism Speaks as part of a philanthropic initiative supporting the 2007 Annual Autism Speaks "Walk Now for Autism" event.  Held in Battery Park, participants in the 5K walk raised over $1 million to fund medical research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for
autism, as well as to raise public awareness about the disorder.

Ronsco’s dedication to Autism Speaks is another example of the many charitable initiatives supported by the members of the unionized construction industry, which has been involved in philanthropic projects for the YMCA of Westchester County, Rebuilding Together and many other community based organizations.  Union labor and management continue to lead the way in skilled and safe craftsmanship and in providing charitable contributions to our communities.
