YANKEE STADIUM
Owner/Developer: New York Yankees/Tishman Speyer Properties
Keeping the Memory of Legends
Since the groundbreaking on August 16, 2006, the new Yankee Stadium has already garnered a reputation as the newest icon among Major League stadiums offering added comforts and the latest features in its quest to become the most fan-friendly baseball park. Opening in 2009, the state-of-the-art structure is one of the premier building projects to take place in the Bronx and is currently being constructed at Macombs Dam Park which is directly across from the current Yankee Stadium.
The 1.5 million square foot stadium that seats 50,800 will in many ways reflect the original Yankee Stadium with a landmark façade and similar field dimensions. The main structure will be a hybrid of cast-in-place concrete on the lower levels and structural steel for the upper levels and roof canopy. The roof canopy will be ringed with familiar frieze similar to the original stadium. The field will sit 12 feet below street level allowing for easier access and vertical transportation to the six different levels of the building. The new ballpark will also feature 60 premium suites.
Ballpark for a New Generation
The new designs for the Yankee Stadium will have a Great Hall featuring the famous Yankee teams from the past and Hall of Fame players that have their plaques hung the current Yankee Stadium. Through the work of engineers, architects and construction professionals, the impressive stature of the ballpark brings newfound excitement to the baseball experience of a new generation of fans. With the support of local groups and residents, local and statewide officials, and institutions, the re-invention of Yankee Stadium will demonstrate the community’s commitment to the long-term development of the Bronx.
