Owner/Developer: Silvercup Studios
Producing a Community for Work and Leisure
As part of the revitalization of the Long Island City waterfront, the newest facility of Silvercup Studios will be a television and film studio complex occupying over two million square feet. The mixed-use complex will feature eight new soundstages, other production and studio spaces and also residential apartments, commercial office space and a home for cultural institutions. Designed by Richard Rodgers Partnership, the $1 billion project will add to New York City’s thriving film production industry while providing waterfront access for residents and creating thousands of jobs.
Sustainable Long-Term Construction
As part of the commitment to creating a sustainable development, the project will also incorporate environmentally responsible green building features such as gray water retention and reuse, a green roof and an energy efficient building design. In terms of economic contribution, the new studio will create an estimated 2,200 construction jobs, 3,900 permanent jobs, and an additional 2,500 indirectly related jobs.
Located six blocks west of the main Silvercup location, the added studio space provides the facilities for more productions, that otherwise may have been filmed elsewhere, to take advantage of the backdrop of New York City. The magnificent view of the Manhattan skyline will further add to the appeal of the complex, drawing in more restaurant and retail opportunities. Silvercup Studios, the largest independent, full-service film and television production facility in the northeast, will contribute to the creation of a true 24/7 community in Long Island City.
