PATH TRANSIT HUB
Owner/Developer: Port Authority of New York and New Jersey
Downtown Transportation Crossroads
Situated at the northeast corner of Church and Vesey Streets, the $2 billion PATH Transit Hub will serve as the chief rail station in downtown Manhattan. Estimated to serve 250,000 commuters and visitors daily by 2020, the station will be the contact point for PATH trains, 14 subway lines, and Hudson River ferry terminals and potentially may be a direct link to JFK International Airport. It will also connect underground to the Fulton Street subway station and include pedestrian access to the World Financial Center.
Lighting the Path to Lower Manhattan’s Future
Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava to resemble a bird being released from a child’s hand, the roof is specially designed to mechanically open to increase light and ventilation to the enclosed space. The inspirational design of the station, featuring 150-foot tall wings, will be a major cultural attraction for the city, with the power to shape the future of New York. The restoration and enhancement of the station will accelerate the economic recovery in addition to serving as a centerpiece for regional transportation.
&M Terminal structure is being completed to pave the way for the new construction. In addition, major work is being undertaken to underpin the 1 Line on the subway.
