GOLDMAN SACHS BUILDING
Owner/Developer: Goldman Sachs

A Return to the Financial District

To be built across the street from the World Trade Center on ‘Site 26,’ the Goldman Sachs building will serve as the financial heavyweight’s new world headquarters. As downtown’s largest employer, the $2.4 billion project will have the capacity to consolidate more than 9,000 employees over 2.1 million square feet of office space. Goldman Sach’s commitment to the property assures the creation of thousands of construction jobs in lower Manhattan and reasserts the area as a world-class business district.

The glass and stainless steel tower, with a broad curving glass facade designed by architect Henry Cobb will house six high-tech trading floors occupying over 75,000 square feet, three floors of meeting and amenity space and thirty floors of superior office space, in addition to a landscaped pedestrian area lined with retail locations. In November 2005, ceremonial shovels broke ground at the site, with a planned completion in June 2009. As of April 2008, steel erection had been put in place; the building is expected to top off in May. Currently, above-grade steel is visible at the location.

In Harmony with the Environment

Most significantly, the building design incorporates environmentally sustainable features and the latest green building technologies with the anticipation of earning a LEED Gold certification. The property will use ultra low-sulfur diesel fuel, water and energy conservation techniques and recycled materials. The green recognition will allow downtown Manhattan to become the world’s leader in having the highest concentration in the world of sustainable construction per square foot. Adding to the harmony between the built and natural environment will be the 5,000 square foot ‘retail arcade’ along the building’s perimeter, which will feature wide ADA-compliant sidewalks covered by a translucent canopy of glass and steel. The building’s walkways will also connect pedestrians to neighboring buildings, shopping areas and the Hudson River Park walkway.
