GATEWAY TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Located a short twelve blocks from Yankee Stadium, the blighted and neglected Bronx Terminal Market is undergoing a complete revitalization.  The new Gateway Center at Bronx Terminal Market is planned to house approximately one million square feet of retail space consisting of four newly constructed multi-tiered buildings and one building to be restored due to its historical significance.  The buildings are slated to provide a mix of major retail and specialty shops and a large, multi-level 2,600 space parking garage.  Additionally, a 250-room hotel is planned as a second phase of the project.

Aside from retail, a two acre waterfront park will be constructed along the Harlem River waterfront allowing for public access, and enhancing the conversion of the underused site.  Within the immediate neighborhood, the market will provide a modern, attractive and environmentally-friendly design that will beautify its surroundings while attracting new business to the area.  Additionally, a unique opportunity for the local community will be granted with “living wage” employment opportunities for Bronx-based contractors and suppliers to take part in pre and post construction activities.

hMARKET FOR LONG-TERM GROWTH
As demolition and early construction work begins underway at the site, the project has already begun to stimulate the local economy by generating an estimated 2000 construction jobs.  In the long run, 2500 permanent retail jobs will be created, providing employment opportunities to help alleviate the significant poverty rate and high unemployment in the area.  The development works in conjunction with its surrounding community to provide not only options for entertainment and retail within the Bronx, but give many a sustainable way of life.
